Next Up | Cameron Smith's Testimonial vs Bradford

Next up at AMT Headingley, Leeds Rhinos will be celebrating the career of Cameron Smith as the Rhinos take on Bradford Bulls in their final preparation match ahead of the start of the season next month.

Here is your preview of the matchup:

Smith's Opposition

Smith's choice of opposition for his Testimonial match sees the Bulls take on the Rhinos in a friendly match for the first time since 2024. More importantly, the 80 minutes act as a preview into the reignited derby rivalry after Bradford's promotion back into Super League.

Super League's expansion in 2026 saw the Bulls end an eleven-year wait to return to the top tier of the UK competition as they joined York and Toulouse, who also made the step up from the Championship. The four-time Super League champions last featured in a Super League campaign back in 2014, but are hoping to be a wild card on their return later next month.

Along with bringing former Leigh and Salford assistant coach Kurt Haggerty in as the new head coach of Bradford, the club has been quick to bolster its squad with 15 new recruits. Former Leeds hooker Andy Ackers could feature against his former club as the Bull's new hooker joins Jayden Nikorima, Rowan Milnes, Caleb Aekins and Joe Mellor in a new look set of half backs. Former Wigan prop Ryan Sutton makes his return to the UK to vice captain the side, after the 30-year old featured in the NRL with Canterbury and Canberra since 2019, plus Esan Marsters, Eribe Doro and Ethan Ryan are amongst the names to watch out for in Bulls colours this season.

Before meeting the Rhinos later this week, the Bulls have played one pre-season friendly so far; a 30-12 run out against Doncaster two weeks ago. Marsters and Nikorima both got their first scores in the convincing result, whilst Waqa Blake was also amongst the scorers as he makes his Super League return in 2026.

The Bulls last beat the Rhinos in a pre-season outing in the build up to the 2024 season when they secured a 34-8 win in the last Keith Howard Foundation Trophy matchup. Leeds held a strong record since beating the Bulls in 2020 though, winning three straight pre-season meetings in 2020, 2022 and 2023.

Smith's Career Highlights

Here are a few of our favourites from Cam's time in blue and amber:

Debut Game vs Huddersfield

Smith marked his debut off the bench for the Rhinos back in April 2016 as the Rhinos took on Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium. Although Leeds lost out 28-20 on this occasion, Smith's second outing against Leigh in the Qualifiers was a more successful outing.

First Senior Tries

Cam waited until the 2018 season to record his first senior try in Leeds colours. The first came in a convincing Challenge Cup win over Leigh as the Rhinos progressed into the semi finals, before he added his first Super League try against Huddersfield in a tight defeat at AMT Headingley.

2019's one point win over Castleford

Despite a tough 2019 season, Smith's input proved crucial in the first of two home matches against Castleford as his conversion helped Leeds to a 21-20 win over the Tigers and brother Daniel.

At the double against the Robins

A first career brace for Smith against Hull KR helped the Rhinos kickstart a winning run ahead of the Covid lockdown in 2020. Touching down in both halves against the Robins, Smith helped the side to a 52-10 triumph.

Grand Final outing

Smith was one of Leeds' standout players during the revived 2022 season under Rohan Smith. Alongside finishing the year with a career high seven tries, he also experienced his first Grand Final outing against St Helens.

Captaincy Announcement

In 2023, Smith received the honour of club captain for the first time. He also was captain the side in 2024 and serve as co-captain in 2025 alongside Ash Handley.

Super League's toughest tackler

Alongside his first season as club captain, Smith led from the front defensively as he collected Super League's top tackler award. After finishing in the top three in 2023, he rallied the Rhinos defence with 992 tackles across the season.
